Watercolor Hearts

As a wife and mom, I love sharing photos of my family. In every room of my home, I have framed pictures and wall art of my husband and kids from the moment we got married to the current stage of my children’s lives. These moments bring me joy every time I enter a room and see them. If I could take them everywhere with me, I would, especially to share with all of my friends and family. In fact, there’s one place that we spend a lot of our time besides home. Social media. With platforms like Instagram and Facebook giving us options to decorate our pages by allowing cover photos, profile pictures, and displayed feeds we have the ability to style our accounts to fit our personalities and to be aesthetically pleasing with the very photos that bring us so much joy at home. I love that and that’s why I designed my own Watercolor Hearts Photoshop PDF Photo Masks. What is that, you might ask? I’ll show you!

These are PDF templates that you can use in programs like Photoshop to customize with your own photos. This creates a beautiful frame around your favorite images to display on social media in creative and unique ways. You can print them and share them online. For me personally, I use them both ways, but I have also found ways to use them to benefit my photography business as well. We’ll get to that in a moment.

Facebook Display: Cover Photo and Profile Picture

Look how beautiful this is! It’s the perfect way to share my photos on social media!

If you don’t already know, I’m a photographer and I create digital resources for others. I made these Watercolor Heart photo masks for myself, but I love sharing the things that I create so that they can bring joy to others too. That’s why I offer this product in three different ways. One, I offer them to other photographers so that they too can use them with client portrait sessions. Two, I offer them to my own photography clients. These are great add ons to any portrait. They can be printed or just delivered digitally to be shared with friends and family online. Three, I offer an editing service for anyone that isn’t a client of mine and/or anyone that doesn’t know how to use Photoshop and can't use the template version themselves. You can simply send me the photo and I’ll add it to the photo mask for you.

Now, let’s talk about business if you are a photography business owner yourself and are thinking about purchasing this product from me. Maybe you want them for your own social media and website aesthetic and/or maybe you want them to create loyal return clients. I’ve got a list of benefits for you!

Social Media

Let’s start with social media. If you’re like me, this is where I struggle the most as a business owner. It’s important to stay consistent and to bring people in to your page. You want to stand out and be eye catching. I used to post an image as a client sneak peek and wouldn’t put much thought into the way it looked in my feed as a whole. With influencers and other photographers focusing on aesthetic and branding these days, posting a random image isn’t cutting it anymore. I evaluated my own social media and noticed that there was so many different themes and colors that my eyes didn’t know where to focus. Things like color pallets are consistency are important to make your brand appealing to potential clients. If your style varies like mine, Fall family sessions are going to look significantly different from my themed Christmas sessions. I also offer fairytale composite sessions throughout the year and it just doesn’t work if I post a styled Cinderella session right in the middle of a Spring line up of family sessions. I needed to figure out a way to post all of my work and still stay consistent. Our main goal after all is to stand out and ultimately bring in more inquiries. Leave people wanting to see more instead of overwhelming them when they first lay eyes on your page. With my collection of Watercolor Heart photo mask templates, it allows me to stand out with my posts. They bring people to my page. When they get there, my photos are displayed in a beautiful and aesthetically pleasing way. It leaves them wanting to see more, to which brings them to my website. If they’ve made it that far, they’re more likely to inquire about booking a portrait session with me.

Upselling

Another benefit of implementing things like this in your business upselling. Whether you structure your business with in person sales or online gallery delivery, upselling add ons is a great way to make a higher profit on a single session. Let’s say that your client has selected their favorite images and they’re ready to make final purchases. Offer special edits like their photos being added to a Watercolor Heart photo mask as an add on. You could allow package options such as a high resolution file for $50, for example, a social media resolution file for $25, or a 10x10 fine art watercolor print for $100. When a client adds one on, boom! You just increased your profit for that session and it only takes a couple of minutes to add an image to a photo mask.

Gifting

Now this is one of my personal favorite ways to offer things like this. I gift a social media resolution file of an image added to the photo mask to my clients. There are a couple of reasons I do this. One, clients really appreciate you taking the extra time to do something like that. It’s also unique and it keeps them coming back to you for future sessions. I usually wait until I deliver final galleries and I’ll send a special thank you ecard along with their favorite image added to a photo mask. They can download it and hopefully will share it online. Their friends will love it too and ask where they got it. You’ll receive more referrals this way. It’s a win win! Two, even though I’m gifting a social media resolution file, there’s still the potential to upsell a print and full resolution file.

Sometimes I will deliver digital gifts like this seasonally. Meaning, I’ll wait a few months and then deliver the file. If I do a family session for a client in the Fall, I might wait until February to send them the gift. That way it gets them thinking about me again. I’ll send them an email and say something along the lines of, “Hi, (client’s name)! I wanted to wish you and your family a very Happy Valentine’s Day! I made this gift for you and wanted to let you know that I am looking forward to working with you again someday. I would love to hear from you. Talk to you soon!” Your clients will love their gift and this will encourage to book another session with you this year.

With there being no overhead cost of gifting a digital item, and since it only takes a couple of minutes to add an image to a photo mask, this has been one of my own biggest business boosters!
